Job Description

**Patient Advocate** **Location:** Gadsden, AL **Schedule:** M-F 8:00am-4:30pm CST **About the role** As a Patient Advocate you will make an impact by helping patients to navigate the healthcare system. You will be a valued member of the Cognizant team and work collaboratively with other stakeholders and teams. **In this role, you will:** + Assist patients and others to complete forms, applications, and other paperwork. + Collect and review patient information to determine patient's eligibility. + Prepare documents, review for accuracy and completeness. + Provide technical assistance on agency issues, services, and programs. + Maintain and/or create files or record keeping systems. Sort, label files, and retrieve documents or other materials. + Interact with patients at the site to provide real-time service support and address patient concerns. + Develop and retain professional relationships with hospital staff. + Handle caseload, retrieve, sustain, and communicate all designated reports. + Maintain confidentiality and adhere to EMTALA and HIPAA guidelines. + Other duties as assigned. Based on this role's business requirements, this is an onsite position requiring 5 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in city, state. The working arrangements for this role are accurate as of the date of posting. This may change based on the project you're engaged in, as well as business and client requirements. Rest assured; we will always be clear about role expectations. **What you need to have to be considered** + 1+ year of work experience in health care, medical insurance, hospital, or clinic + High School or GED required; associate degree or equivalent from 2-year college a plus. + Comfortable working in a fast-paced diverse environment + Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. + Excellent communication skills to interact with patients and hospital staff. + Ability to travel locally to other work sites. + Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel pivot tables, Project, and PowerPoint) + Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare processes. **Salary and Other Compensation** : The hourly rate for this position is between $21.00 - 24.00 per hour, depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. Applications will be accepted until 8/15/2025.
