The Accounting Advisor is responsible for budget creation and implementation for the U.S. and International teams, financial strategic planning, and some aspects of donor management.
In collaboration with the EI executive director and leadership, participate, advise, and assist in the processes of providing and implementing short- and long-term strategic vision and tactical plans regarding financial goals to accomplish EI’s mission of restoring and empowering children affected by war to become leaders for peace.
● Provide bank account updates monthly
● Provide a monthly ops report every other month
● Provide a budget explanation and updates to the EI board and relevant stakeholders
● Annually review/update the chart of accounts/class system
● Lead quarterly goals and fiscal year budget– completed 2 weeks before Board approval meeting (typically in October)
● Ensure proper accountability to track funds sent overseas
○ Review quarterly budget requests submitted by partners, make sure all supporting documentation is present (special request docs, detailed budgets for each project or special requests, etc.), compare to yearly planned budget, and communicate with partners on budget/financial questions as necessary
○ Make recommendations to the EI Executive team in alignment with EI’s yearly budget and fundraising
○ Review monthly financial reports submitted to EI by partners

● Collaborate with and support the Co-CEOs to ensure proper implementation of financial policies and procedures
● Collaborate with and support Co-CEOs to ensure staff are in full compliance with the integrity of the control structure and procedure manual
● Provide advice and/or recommendations to improve cash flow management, increase revenue, and decrease expenditures
● Virtuous management
● Track restricted donations by ECFA guidelines
● Collaborate with the EI team to ensure the security of historical, financial, and operational data
● Prepare end-of-year donor tax-exempt receipt letters and mail by January 25th
● Liaise with the EI board and team as needed for strategy and reporting
● Collaborate for all budget creation and day-to-day implementation
● Run financial reports as requested by ED or leadership

○ US and International budget creation and communication
○ Yearly audit completion and reporting; coordinate tax filings
○ Filing charitable solicitations report annually and on time
○ Filing annual financial report to the Secretary of State (due annually on April 1)
● Oversee event and campaign financials and follow up with necessary stakeholders
● Attend meetings, as necessary to fulfill your contracted responsibilities, with Exile International team members
● Conduct yourself appropriately and ethically at all times when dealing with visitors, donors, board members, and support staff;
● Adhere to the supervision of the Executive Director
● All staff, ICs, volunteers, and interns are asked to abide by EI’s Core Values, EI Work Life Code, and EI Problem Solving Policy while working with all EI teammates and in the general work of Exile International
● Return all emails no later than 48 hours from the date they were received. If possible, return team emails within 24 hours
● Respond to any team-related messages (Slack or text) no later than the end of the day.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred
Minimum 2-5 years of experience in accounting, finance, or nonprofit financial management
Experience in international financial oversight and working with overseas partners strongly preferred
Prior experience collaborating with boards, executive leadership, and donors
Nonprofit financial management experience and familiarity with ECFA standards preferred
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budget management
Proficiency in accounting software and donor management systems (e.g., Virtuous, QuickBooks, or similar)
Ability to create, manage, and reconcile multi-department budgets (U.S. and international)
Skilled in preparing financial reports, donor documentation, and audit coordination
Strong Excel/financial modeling skills
Leadership & Strategic Skills
Demonstrated ability to lead financial planning processes, including annual budgets, quarterly reviews, and strategic forecasting
Experience advising executive leadership on financial strategies to support organizational growth and sustainability
Ability to analyze complex financial data and provide clear, actionable recommendations
Comfortable presenting financial information to board members and non-financial stakeholders
Collaboration & Communication
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to diverse audiences
Strong collaboration skills with experience working cross-functionally (executive leadership, accountants, fundraising staff, program partners)
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with donors, board members, and international partners
